Fruit to Nuts

Learn how to add flavor to your breads with fruits and nuts. We’ll be making Pain au Levain with Craisins and Walnuts, plus one additional bread. You’ll get your hands messy, laugh a lot and learn much. You’ll take home some of each, all baked in the church’s wood fired brick oven.
Limited to 14 people; registration deadline is July 31. Cost: $40 per person; $10 for a child accompanied by a paid parent or grandparent.*

Marine Mills Folk School

Slow down, get your hands messy, have some fun and learn the benefits of sourdough baking. The class will feature all steps of the sourdough baking process: sourdough culture maintenance and levain preparation, dough handling and shaping, as well as the final proof and how to bake in a home oven. You will leave with a better understanding of sourdough, a bit of starter, a couple loaves of bread and dough to bake at home.
• Intergenerational Age: 10+, each child must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: $50/person; plus $10 for materials

Bryce Johnson is a retired pastor. In 2010, he guided the White Bear Lake United Methodist Church to build a community bread oven. In retirement he has been making and selling bread at Farmers Markets and through his Community Supported Bakery.
Ross Safford is a professionally trained chef and former full-time baker. He uses humor, story-telling, and his vast experience to make bread making simple and fun.
